West Chicago Lime Sludge Project
Meeting modern drinking water standards and public expectation for drinking water quality and taste characteristics involves water purification in many Illinois municipalities whether sources from ground or surface waters, polishing often involves a carbonate additive which produces a sludge/slurry as a bi-product. Removal of the material from potable water treatment plants involves lagoon cleaning, loading, trucking and distribution to farms for conveyance to sanitary landfill.
In 2008, Heartland Recycling provided lagoon cleaning services and lime sludge removal for the City of West Chicago at their modern water treatment works near the DuPage Airport. The project is another example of Heartland’s environmental contracting service with its unbroken record of on time on budget performance and meeting strict regulatory standards.
